Reconciled:  Walk Across The Street

Pastor Carly Major

February 18. 19, 2012

1.  What are some “ridiculous” love songs that you can think of from the past or present?  What crazy thing(s) have you done for someone that you love?  What did Jesus Christ do for His beloved (John 3:16-17, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Matthew 18:12-14)?

2.  Our first chair focuses on creating an environment for people to have an encounter with Jesus Christ.  Living Hope is all about risking everything to reach the next person with the saving power of the Gospel, whether it’s your neighbor or the person on the street in Nicaragua.  How far are you willing to go?  What will you risk to reach out to the lost around you and in your own family?  We are in a series about reconciliation, restoring God’s favor (2 Corinthians 5:18-21).  Read Matthew 28:18-19.  What are we commissioned to do?  What are you doing to fulfill this call?

3.  The people you come into contact with every day are all God’s loved ones.   He died for every single human being (John 3:16). Carly shared her and Brett's realization of this when consumed with desperation to share the Gospel with Don.  When was the last time that you have been fully consumed with the need to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with someone?  What lengths did you go to pursue them and show them the hope and love of our Savior?  How desperate are you to be about the ministry of reconciliation?

4.  God pursues all who are lost with a desperate and all consuming passion.  According to 2 Peter 3:9, what is His heart for all people?  What aspect of His character stands out to you here?  Look at the following Scriptures: Jonah 1:17-2:10, Acts 9:1-19.  What drastic measures did God take to pursue these individuals?  In your own life, how has God pursued you?  What has He done to bring you back to Him and restore what has been broken?  How far and for how long will He chase after you (Psalm 23:6)?

5.  Even the hardest of hearts can soften to the Gospel message (Ezekiel 36:24-27).  Galatians 6:9 tells us to not grow weary in doing good, yet sometimes we stop praying for our loved ones, we stop doing our part to spread God’s love .  Has this happened to you?  Brett’s mom is an example to all of us.  She prayed for her husband, Don, for 50 years and finally saw the fruit of her prayers.  Is there a family member or loved one that you have stopped praying for?  What made you stop believing?  How persistent should we be in going after the lost (Matthew 18:10-14, Luke 18:1-8)?  What have you stopped believing God for?

6.  What is the mission that we need to be reconciled to (2 Corinthians 5:18-21)?  What needs to stir our hearts to reckless desperation?  Who in your family doesn’t know Jesus?  To what extent are you willing to go to pursue them?  What is God asking you to do?  Invite them to church, pick up the phone, take a walk across the street.  Be willing to risk everything to reach everyone you can.

Next weekend will be a great weekend to invite friends and family to.  A long time friend of Pastor John’s, Pastor Ed Young will be here with his wife sharing an awesome message.  Be bold and invite!
